JaJeJems and Seaglass Jewellery

Collection of seaglass
Collecting seaglass began as a leisure time activity during summer holidays in Newfoundland.  One of our favourite spots to collect glass near our cottage in Lark Harbour NL is Bottle Cove. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bottle_Cove
With a substantial collection after a few summer holidays, our daughter Jessica decided to try her hand at making pendants with some of the larger pieces.  Since I had already started designing jewellery myself, the seaglass jewellery seemed like a great fit.  Now we feature seaglass jewellery in our online store: JaJeJems on iCraft.  Jessica and her family had moved to Moncton, New Brunswick in the meantime and discovered that the beaches along the New Brunswick coast were also a great source of seaglass.

Jessica's first step in designing seaglass jewellery was to teach herself to wrap the pieces of seaglass with wire, usually silver or gold plated copper wire.  Here is a nice example of a simple piece of jewellery using a wrapped seaglass pendant.http://icraft.ca/handmade/30042/seaglass-necklace-in-green-and-gold-sea-scrolls.php

After taking a class in wrapping seaglass, Jessica decided to expand her repertoire by learning to drill small holes in the seaglass.  This enabled her to add charms to some of the pieces as well as to link pieces of seaglass together as in this lovely pieces designed by Jessica.http://icraft.ca/handmade/32114/drilled-seaglass-bracelet-off-shore.php

More and more imaginative pieces of jewellery have followed. Both Jessica and myself put our own spin on designing pieces with equally pleasing results!

We will be displaying many of these pieces in Moncton in two weeks at Turner's Christmas in the Coliseum show http://www.christmas-at-the-coliseum.com/  Come and see us there or visit our online store anytime!
