Waiting to Roost

Yes it has been a long time since I have posted an update on our move to Newfoundland and I am sure that our followers are wondering what has become of us.  Well we are in waiting mode as you can see, that is waiting for our house to sell in Ontario, waiting for Roy to come to Newfoundland and waiting to get on with our plans to open our cafe/gallery at The Roost this spring.

Our move to York Harbour Newfoundland in September of 2013 went very well considering the distance involved.  My mother's home in Lark Harbour was ready for her to move in on September 20th and she is well settled in now.  The Roost is another story, however, as we have not been able to proceed with our renovations as planned.  It still looks pretty much as it did when we bought it, perhaps with a bit more snow!

Our business partner Blake and I have not been idle over the past few months though.  I have  continued to work on jewellery and promote our online store JaJeJems.  In November we drove to Moncton to join Jessica at the Christmas in the Coliseum show.  December saw us taking part in two Christmas shows at the Wonderful Fine Market in Cornerbrook NL, a showcase for locally made arts and crafts and locally grown food.  Here we are at our table at one of the shows.

In addition to our jewellery, we were also able to offer art cards of some of my paintings and were really pleased at the second show to have Blake's sea glass sculptures on display.  He was especially excited about selling several of them!  Blake became intrigued with working with sea glass after our first show at the market and we haven't been able to slow him down since!

While Blake has been working at his sculptures and sea glass floral arrangements,  I have been making glass beads, jewellery and doing some painting in preparation for some upcoming craft shows and our tentative store opening in May.  The plan is to open the gift shop first, with the cafe to follow, hopefully before the end of 2014.  Looks like a busy time ahead!

  1. Buy Glass Beads online used in jewellery making by creating a continuous string of beads. These beads are put through special beading wires to create a layered string of beads in different colours and shapes.
